On August 26, 2026, a devastating flash flood struck northern Nepal. A mass of water, mud and debris surged down the beds of the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers from the border with Tibet, sweeping away houses, bridges and roads. According to the latest reports, the death toll has exceeded 400 and more than a thousand people, including a number of foreigners, remain missing — but the figures have been changing literally by the hour in recent days as rescue work continues. The worst-hit areas are in the districts of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Gorkha.
