Lenka Poláčková broke all records on Darujme.cz. She ran the entire length of the Alps and raised CZK 4.6 million with her donors!
This is the largest amount ever raised on Darujme.cz through a single personal fundraiser, and with the highest number of donors. Congratulations from the bottom of our hearts! The hard-earned sum will support young children with heart disease as well as adults awaiting a lung transplant.
Over the past weeks, Lenka shared her peer-to-peer campaign together with her husband Honza on Instagram @lenkavacval Every day they took all their followers (114K) along with them to the Alps to watch Lenka's ultramarathon feat unfold day by day.
She reached the finish in Monaco last week after 39 days and more than 2,000 km across the entire Alps. She climbed 96,500 meters of elevation, ouch ouch ouch... Along the way she ran through 8 countries and crossed national borders 44 times. She ran over mountain passes full of snow, constantly soaked, with an injured knee, alone in the middle of a mountain storm or "just" feeling she couldn't go on. Through all of that, she radiated enormous hope and optimism every single day. A lion's share of the success of the Ver svojej ceste (Believe in your path) campaign belongs to Lenka's husband, photographer and adventurer Jan Poláček. Without his daily support from their splendid camper van, the charity mission could not have happened.
More than 8,500 donors helped carry Lenka to the finish, together sending over CZK 4.6 million to her campaign. On top of that, another 37 ambassadors started their own personal fundraisers alongside Lenka! Throughout the whole event they ran for their lives and collected donations in their own communities. All donations were added up on Lenka's project, and of the total amount, these charitable runners ran up
over CZK 210,000.
The last few days of the campaign were also very dramatic to watch. Even after Lenka crossed the finish line, new donors kept joining. During the final two days, the amount raised unexpectedly passed the CZK 4 million mark and kept on growing
!
Some donors were swept up in the triumphant atmosphere of the finale. Donors often sent their donations repeatedly over the course of the campaign, and it was clear that some were giving even from very little, such as a student who sent CZK 48 instead of buying his usual coffee. The most generous single donation was CZK 15,500.
With the proceeds of the campaign, the couple and their donors will support the Children's Heart Center at Motol University Hospital in purchasing the latest ultrasound machine, and the Lung Transplant Center at Motol University Hospital (the only one for the Czech Republic and Slovakia) in acquiring revolutionary transplant boxes.
