Susterum began with a simple idea: socio-economic disadvantage must not stand between someone and the chance to become a leader of their own community. We work with young people aged 18 to 25, giving them the space, the mentoring, and the practical tools to build or transform a real community around them.
It is not about lectures or yet another certificate. Participants spend six months working on their own community project—from the initial idea to a tangible result that continues to operate after the program ends. They are supported by a mentor who has already walked a similar path and is thus able to assist these young people in their efforts.
Our very first cohort is running right now, so we don't yet have big numbers to boast about. What we do have is a clear purpose: to give people who wouldn't otherwise get this chance the room to show what they're capable of.
What your gift pays for
- The bootcamp — venue, food, and accommodation for the working blocks where the programme happens
- Mentoring — matching, coordination, and preparing mentors, so meetings are work with an outcome, not a casual coffee
- Trainers and experts — sessions on funding, law, communication, and marketing led by people who do it for a living
- Materials and tools — the worksheets, templates, and software participants build their projects with
Your gift helps cover these costs — and brings into the programme people who could never afford an experience like this on their own.
