Open House Prague Festival is hosted by a non-profit organization (registered institute) of the same name founded in 2014. The idea of opening inaccessible buildings appealed to us so much: we are enthusiasts who love our city and want to attract other people's attention to the places where they live. Quality of our lives depends, among other things, on the quality of architecture and the public space around us. The purpose of our non-profit organization is to popularize architecture to the general public. We open the capital city to all people, regardless of age, education or profession, and we wish and aim for people to see the city’s architecture and public spaces in wider urban, historical and cultural contexts. We provide educational materials for children, we also organize workshops.
Festival engages hundreds of volunteers of various ages across many professions. We participate on the cultivation of volunteering to the extent that is unparalleled in the Czech environment. We also offer programs for people with health disabilities. Visitors come from both the whole country and also from abroad. We are part of the international Open House Worldwide network connecting 42 cities in which the Open House festivals are running. The patronage of the Open House Prague festivals represents from the beginning the world-renowned architect Eva Jiřičná, who stood at the beginnings of the Open House in London and worked for 20 years in its board of directors.
