The Visual Arts Archive is a nonprofit, independent research institution dedicated to the systematic documentation and study of the visual arts—particularly those of the Czech Republic and Slovakia—within broader historical and contemporary contexts. It manages and catalogs an extensive collection of documents—catalogs, monographs, invitations, books, journals, press releases, and other sources related to the visual arts. The Archive’s main objective is to collect, professionally process, and make available source materials on the visual arts, thereby creating a resource base for researchers, students, and the general public. An important part of its activities is also the development and management of the abART information system, which links data on artists, exhibitions, institutions, and other related phenomena. In addition to archival and documentation work, the Archive operates a reading room and storage facilities in Prague 4, a public library at the DOX Center for Contemporary Art, organizes exhibitions and lectures, compiles bibliographies, and publishes books.
