The villa was built by Adolf Loos and Karel Lhota in 1932 by Prague lawyer JUDr. Josef Winternitz for himself and his family: his wife Jenny, daughter Suzana and son Petr. The Winternitz family had to leave their villa and were taken to the Auschwitz concentration camp. Josef Winternitz and his son Petr were immediately murdered there. Although Jenny and her daughter Suzana survived the war, they never looked back at the villa and never spoke about it to their descendants. After the Velvet Revolution, the villa was returned to the descendants of the original owners, who renovated it back to its original 1930s appearance at their own expense Since 2017, the villa has been open to the public and can be visited as part of guided tours or as part of the rich cultural program that takes place there. The Winternitz villa is still in the hands of the descendants of the original owners, who, through a permanent exhibition on the second floor and educational activities, are trying to prevent people from forgetting the turbulent history of the 20th century, which was indelibly written into the history of the family and the building. The operation is taken care of by the great-grandson of Josef Winternitz, David Cysař, and his wife Kristina, on behalf of the entire family.
