Don’t allow the only feminist public library in Czechia to disappear
Help us save a place where feminist history is preserved, experiences are shared, and new ideas are born.
Imagine a place where the history of the Czech women’s movement comes to life, where queer stories and books you won’t find anywhere else await their readers. A place where new ideas, arguments, and hopes are born. This place is the feminist Jiřina Šiklová Library. For us, for you, and for many others.
But not all libraries are the same. Ours is, above all, a safe space where feminists, queer people, and students can meet and share experiences. It is a place where the history and memory of the Czech women’s movement come alive.
Running a feminist library isn’t really a money-making venture, but we know it’s worth it. We raise funds wherever we can to cover the librarian’s salary, new books, the library system, and rent, and until now, we were successful. But now we’re facing a lack of stable funding, which goes hand in hand with increasing attacks on gender equality.
You can help us save the library ❤️🔥
With your donation, you can help keep the Jiřina Šiklová Library open - a space that has been bringing together feminists, queer people, students, and the general public for nearly 35 years.
Thanks to you, the following will remain accessible:
nearly 9,000 books on feminism, LGBTQ+ topics, and gender—many of which cannot be found anywhere else in the Czech Republic
an archive of memories, documents, and women’s history that “mainstream history” ignores,
community and educational events where new ideas are born.
Without your support, the library is facing closure and its collection will fall apart. And if it disappears now, another one like it will likely never be established in Czechia again.
One month of library operations costs 30,000 CZK; to keep it open for at least another year, we need to raise 360,000 CZK.
Help us save a place where feminist history is preserved—and continues to live on.

We're almost halfway there, thank you! Who will help us break the 180,000 mark? 180,000 = half a year of library operations and community events <3
In just two days, you’ve already raised enough to cover nearly two months of library operations! We are beyond grateful for your support and the wonderful messages we’ve been receiving. Next goal: to cover a full year of library operations = 360,000 CZK!
You’ve already raised enough to keep the Library open for almost a month longer - thank you! But to ensure we don’t have to worry about every month going forward, we need at least 120 of you to become regular donors. Just 250 CZK a month will help us stop struggling to survive and start growing the library again, opening our doors to more people. Tell at least two people you know about us - let’s build the Jiřina Šiklová Library community <3
