"Nemo" is the call sign of Oleksiy, a drone operator from the 57th Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Before 2022, Nemo was a theater critic. He became a soldier and observer only after the full-scale invasion began. Besides a just victory for Ukraine, he dreams of studying at a university abroad. "I realize I won't be returning to my civilian life anytime soon," he says. "But for now, it is important to defend our independence." At the Memory of Nations initiative, we focus on protective equipment - ensuring that as many defenders as possible can return to their lives and original professions after the war. Reconnaissance and observation drones monitor enemy movements and protect the lives of Ukrainian defenders on the front line. They can also carry light loads, delivering essential medicine or water to cut-off units and individuals. The standard commercial price for a DJI Matrice 4T (or a similar drone with thermovision) is approximately 145,000 CZK. Thanks to the large volume of our initiative, we achieved a purchase price more than a third lower, acquiring one drone for approximately 90,000 CZK.

The reconnaissance drones will also be sent to the 47th Mechanized Brigade, currently engaged in heavy fighting in the Sumy region, the 35th Marine Brigade, defending the access routes to Kramatorsk and the special forces units operating in the Zaporizhzhia region. For all of them, these drones represent a significantly better chance of survival. In modern conflict, the outcome is no longer decided solely by firepower, but primarily by the quality of information. Reconnaissance drones have become one of the most vital tools on the contemporary battlefield, providing a continuous overview of the situation and enabling better decision-making. The most vital asset of reconnaissance drones is their ability to protect the lives of Ukrainian soldiers. It is no longer necessary to send reconnaissance patrols into dangerous areas where direct contact with the enemy is imminent. A drone can map terrain, detect enemy positions, or identify traps within minutes without risking a human life. Commanders thus have accurate information at their disposal even before units move, which significantly reduces the risk of losses during an advance. At the same time, reconnaissance drones help prevent unexpected attacks and better protect soldiers directly on the front line. Continuous monitoring of the area allows for the early detection of enemy movement, planned ambushes, or equipment transfers. Units can thus react in advance – change their route, prepare a defense, or withdraw from an endangered area. In many cases, drones thus function as an "early warning system" that gives soldiers the most valuable thing: time to decide and a chance to survive. Their economic and personnel efficiency is also a great advantage. Drones are relatively cheap, and their loss does not mean the loss of a pilot's life. This enables their mass deployment and simultaneously gives even weaker actors the opportunity to face technologically stronger opponents. No less important is their flexibility. Modern reconnaissance drones can operate at various levels – from small tactical tools directly with units to large systems monitoring extensive territories. They can operate day and night, utilize thermal imaging or other sensors, and function even in difficult conditions. Thank you for your support! Ukraine is bleeding. We don't have to just passively watch the injustice and aggression our friends are facing because they decided to share our values of freedom and democracy. For more than four years now, we've been buying protective and medical supplies and doing everything we can to get them to Ukraine as quickly as possible and to the places where they're most needed. Thousands of vests and helmets from us are being used by defenders on the front lines, and many tons of medical supplies are saving lives. We also supply fire trucks, ambulances, generators, drones, and optical equipment. The war is still going on. Ukrainian heroes are fighting and still need supplies to defend their country. Please, let us persevere as well. Our own experience with war and totalitarianism in the 20th century compels us to help Ukraine.
In 2019, the non-profit organization Post Bellum established a branch in Lviv with the aim of recording the memories of eyewitnesses for the Memory of Nations archive. Our colleagues in Ukraine have recorded dozens of stories, mainly from the period of Stalinist repression, dissidents, and political prisoners. After the outbreak of the conflict, they asked us for help. We couldn't refuse. Thanks to your support, we have already delivered thousands of bulletproof vests and helmets, tons of medical supplies and observation optics, and, last but not least, fully equipped ambulances and fire trucks to the defenders of Ukraine. Aid to Ukraine has a tangible impact—our collection has demonstrably saved dozens of lives. It also has symbolic significance—the victims of aggression know that they are not alone. All of the resources sent are non-lethal in nature.
All materials needed have been consulted with experts from the Army of the Czech Republic. The recipients of our aid are predominantly frontline fighters, members of special forces units. The assistance is implemented through the Embassy of Ukraine in the Czech Republic. Representatives of the Czech Embassy in Kyiv then oversee the correct use and distribution of the material to those in need.
In cooperation with the Donio portal and, above all, six thousand generous donors, we managed to collect funds for equipment of two field hospitals that play a vital role in saving the lives of wounded soldiers.
Together with the general public, we remind ourselves that the war in Ukraine is still on and that we must not be indifferent. On February 21, 2026, together with the organizations People in Need, Million Moments for democracy and the European Congress of Ukrainians we again organized a rally for the 4th anniversary of the war. The President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, also spoke at the Old Town Square.
During August we have been organizing a commemorative event called "Go Home, Ivan" in the Boris Nemtsov Park with the same organizations. We recall the time when Soviet aggression also affected us. In 2025 the event "Go Home, Ivan" took place on August 21, traditionally in front of the Russian Embassy. The band Rybičky 48 played at the event.
