Angel Camp - let us change children´s lives

I first went to Angel camp two years ago. I wanted to contribute with my energy, time and attention at a place where there was a great potential this was very much needed. I expected that this camp would differ very much from other camps I went to. I was also expecting my first baby. People could not yet tell I was pregnant, still I was being touched by the awarness that my baby cannot choose what kind of parent I am going to become. Similarly, neither those children are not responsible for their parents´ faults. Still they are constantly being punished. A punishment in a form of fear, anxiety or prejudice from people around. It really was a very intensive week for me full of various experience and emotions. I gave myself at disposal to the kids. I experienced teenage girls to enjoy listening to good-night lullabies. I experienced a boy who literally bloomed among other children compared to the environment of his school class, where he was rather lethargic, unwilling to cooperate. Here he was everywhere on time, joined activities even those strenuous ones such as running and cycling race. I could not believe my eyes! Such a change! I experienced tears and mooving saying good-bye between the kids and their guides. The children found there understanding, attentive listening and acceptance. It was something that unlocked those little hearts protecting themselves from pain and hurt. This stay is of an immense meaning for many of the children. Compared to a school class group, they don´t feel like outsiders here any more. Because they all are in the same boat. Nobody is judging them, because everybody knows what it is like to be a child of an imprisoned parent who had done something wrong.
