Kitty Cham fought for his life

We adopted a stray kitten, he came in the fall in a poor state, thin, hungry, sick, eyes rotten so that it could not see. We felt sorry for him. We took him to a vet and cured the inflammation. The cat Cham was recovering and was extremely friendly, lively, inquisitive and joyful.

Unfortunately, 2 weeks ago he suddenly stopped eating, he was apathetic, tired. The local veterinarian stated that it was a bacterial infection and received antibiotics by injection. However, his condition worsened and vomiting started. So we went to a veterinary emergency - the only one in the our region opened 24 hours. The cat was examined here and admitted for infusion therapy overnight. Subsequently according to the blood count, they diagnosed panleucopenia (cat plague) the next day. We wanted to do the best for him, because his start to life was already very challenging. He remained hospitalized at this clinic, receiving infusions and tube feeding. Unfortunately, they did not use all the treatment options for this disease in this facility, and they did not take our insistence into account either. After a few days, we found a suitable cat donor for a blood transfusion, but in the meantime, his condition deteriorated significantly, as we later found out, mainly due to insufficient care and nutrition. The blood transfusion was successful, but the approach to the treatment was very lazy. The communication stalled, we received distorted information and the impression intensified in us that they were not interested in saving the animal.

We managed to arrange another veterinary clinic, to which we transported the kitten. Here, the doctor performed the necessary examinations and stated that panleucopenia is on the decline, but the complication is severe malnutrition and, as a result, liver problems. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the helpful staff, the kitten died here this week after 3 days of hospitalization. He fought bravely for his life for 13 days. As we have learned, he has been malnourished since the beginning of his hospitalization. We are overwhelmed. We are grateful for spending at least a short time with him. We are very sorry that we relied on the professional care and judgment of some veterinarians. We did not know that the approach and care in different veterinary facilities could be so different. We hope that no one else will have to suffer such an experience and helplessness. The cost of treatment climbed to a dizzying amount of 1370 EUR, which we really did not expect.
