Whisper's Children Hospital in Uganda needs your help during the Covid-19 pandemic crisis

The coronavirus crisis has caused incredible panic in Uganda. It is forbidden to travel, all traffic is stopped, shops, schools and churches are closed.
A lot of hospitals are also closed, but our hospital just can't beat anything! 👨🏽⚕️❤️🏥
👉Every morning we pick up staff and take them to the hospital.
👉 We have an SOS line for our patients to call at any time.
👉We have rented 4 cars to pick up patients who need our help.
👉Our watchmen have turned into a driver.
👉We have masks for all patients and employees.
👉 We have food and medicines in stock.
And we are ready for everything! 💪

❤️What we need help with ❤️
🚨Gasoline
Spending on gasoline has multiplied. We need not only gasoline for cars, but also for the generator, because we are in this state forever without electricity.
😷Masks
We are distributing masks to all our patients and their escorts, and our supplies are getting thinner.
💊Medicines and drugs
Drug prices have risen sharply as imports have been limited, so we need to help with rising drug spending.
We very much want Uganda to avoid the disease because there is not enough medical care, very limited hospital equipment and a lack of protective equipment, so there is basically no way to protect yourself. Also, patients are at high risk of becoming infected - HIV immunodepressed patients, children with tuberculosis, children with haematological diseases and especially children with malnutrition.

What is Whispers Hospital?
Whispers Magical Children Hospital is the only hospital of its kind, not only in Uganda. We officially opened the hospital in March 2016 as a children's hospital and in May 2018 we supplemented it with a maternity hospital and gynecology. It was founded and led by Czech - Veronika Cejpková. At Whisper, we do not see our patients as diagnoses, we see them as people with life stories, and we want to help everyone individually in their situation, so besides medical care we also offer social support, preventive care and many other services.
In normal times (!!!) our total monthly expenses are 27 thousand EUR.
We spend an average of 5,000 EUR a month on drugs, an average of 1,900 EUR a month on laboratory tests and 14,000 EUR on employee salaries. We have other big expenses for renting the building, electricity and water, which will climb up to 2,000 EUR per month. Other expenses include medical supplies, sanitary supplies, food for patients and employees, office supplies, gasoline for generator and medical equipment.

Why support Whisper's wishes?
1) Even a small amount makes a big difference
In Uganda, prices are incomparably lower compared to, for example, Europe, so we feed the whole family for a few EUROs and we can do wonders even with small amounts.
2) Care that makes sense
Whisper takes care of patients even after they leave the hospital, because we do not want the children to get infected again. We invite patients to visit or send our outreach team to them.
3) Support not only patients but also employees
Thanks to your contributions, we can employ 82 employees in our hospital in Uganda and thus secure their families.
4) We really care about people
Whisper does everything humanly and personally, we care about each of our employees and the patient. We solve every situation individually and always try to find the best solution for all.
5) We always do more
We want our patients to feel at home, so we include them in our celebrations and want them to always be part of the hospital.
6) We are volunteer-friendly
Volunteers and interns of all kinds are welcome. We thus participate in their professional and human growth.

About me 😎
My name is Boris Šír, I am a general student medicine at the 3rd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, Czech Republic. I am going to Whisper's Hospital for a month-long volunteer internship. Before studying medicine, I worked as a hydrogeologist, which gave me some experience of a humanitarian volunteering in Africa (South Sudan in person in the field, Malawi and Uganda as a remote support for colleagues on the ground).
