Sambi suffers from degenerative myelopathy which means that his whole body will gradually become paralysed. But for now, he can still enjoy running with his wheelchair and we really want it to stay that way for as long as possible. Massages of his front paws will help with that. Sambi, the shepherd mix, came in our care from his owners who weren't able to care of him anymore. At the time, Sambi wasn't walking on his hind legs. The examination at the vet discovered that he has very extensive dysplasia which we considered to be the origin of his problems β and which can be operated. But blood tests conducted later showed a much worse diagnosis β degenerative myelopathy.
It's a genetic disease that causes Sambi's body to become paralysed gradually and unfortunately, there's no cure for that. π The best we can do for Sambi now is to give him loving care and enjoy together with him the time he has left.
Sambi got a wheelchair that enables him to run fast again. We also decided to schedule appointments for him to have his front paws massaged.Those will help him keep his legs in good condition so that he will be able to enjoy such running with his wheelchair for as long as possible. ππͺΒ
