Support for patients with multiple sclerosis (MS)
Union ROSKA = WE = patient organization with the aim of helping patients with multiple sclerosis to live a quality, dignified and full life. We organize many events - e.g. conferences, exercise courses, exhibitions, sports games - Roskiad. Our affiliated associations are all over the country and their activities support MS patients and their loved ones. Helping people with MS is handled by the patients themselves.
In 1983, the first club Roska was founded at the Union of the Disabled (SI) in Prague, gradually joined by other large cities across the country These clubs organized their own activities, such as exercise, swimming, lectures, reconditioning.
On 1 July 1992, the Union ROSKA was registered with the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic as a civil association, which represents regional ROSKAs (affiliated clubs) throughout the Czech Republic.
With independence came new possibilities, ideas and the necessary impulses, which led to an increase in the scope and quality of the services provided. There is international cooperation and partial professionalisation of services.
The mission of the ROSKA Union is to help people with multiple sclerosis to live a dignified and fulfilling life. In its activities it has built on the ROSKA associations (clubs) that have been established in the Czech Republic since 1983. The ROSKA Union is an active member of the international federation MSIF and its European platform EMSP.
Self-help for the disabled is very effective, which is implemented in 29 regional branch associations. The ROSKA Union has a nationwide presence in almost all regions of the Czech Republic and has about 1,200 members.
The implemented programmes are e.g.:
- Operation of ROSKA regional centres for the specific needs of people with MS, i.e. information, counselling and contact point, exercise room, premises for internet PC club, language courses, etc.
- social work, including complete social and employment counselling and, where appropriate, specific assistance
- direct implementation of recovery actions, i.e. convalescent rehabilitation stays, rehabilitation exercises, swimming and hippotherapy
- organisation of conferences and seminars
- publishing of books, audio and video CDs and DVDs, educational brochures and regional publications
- training of trainers, implementation of professional lectures and seminars
- providing a complete information service
- active cooperation with doctors
- international cooperation
- club activities, sports games for MS patients "ROSKIÁDA"
- regular exercise, swimming, occupational therapy and art therapy lessons throughout the Czech Republic
