Let's support Ukrainian civil society representatives in the fifth year of the Russian invasion
For the fifth year in a row, people in Ukraine have been facing bombing and destruction of infrastructure. Due to targeted Russian attacks, they often struggle with water shortages and power outages. It is civic initiatives and organizations, especially in the southern and eastern regions, that are helping locals get through these difficult times. Join us in supporting representatives of civil society so that they do not slacken in their efforts and can continue to help throughout this year. Thanks to your donations, they can distribute backup power sources in Mykolaiv and building materials, tools, and medicines in Kherson wherever they are needed. The funds raised are also used to support organizations providing psychological care to children in areas near the front line, within sight of the destroyed Kakhovka Dam. Last but not least, your donation will help evacuate people whose lives are in immediate danger. We have been operating in Ukraine since 2014 and during that time we have managed to establish partnerships with many local organizations, to which we have so far provided support in building a conscious civil society.
We help independent journalists report political repressions and human rights abuses. We support investigative media that bring corruption to light and expose power interests. We work with human rights defenders to monitor human rights abuses. Also, our partners are local associations of active citizens, dealing with environmental protection, assistance to victims of domestic violence, transparency of public procurement or caring for orphans.
The invasion of Russian troops puts all these great people in double danger.
Experience from the Russian annexation of Crimea shows that immediately after the entry of Russian troops, there was a severe decimation of active civil society. Journalists, activists, human rights defenders and others have been persecuted, bullied, imprisoned, tortured, abducted and, in some cases, killed.
The same is currently happening on an even larger scale in other territories of Ukraine, occupied by the Russian army.
That is why we want to provide assistance and support to these brave people, whether they decide to stay in place and continue their activities despite the risks, or if they are forced to leave Ukraine in order to preserve their own lives or the safety of their families.

In late April, we welcomed representatives from the Rivne City Council—one of many Ukrainian cities grappling with power outages during the war—on a study tour of the Czech Republic. They toured environmental initiatives in several Czech cities, learned how community energy sharing works, and met with a number of experts. They took home specific know-how for their own energy advisory center, as well as for the development of energy savings and renewable energy sources. Initiatives like these are made possible thanks to you.

At the end of November, we organized an intensive educational trip for mayors and organizations from the Kirovohrad region of Ukraine, focusing on water resources, ecological solutions in the field of wastewater treatment, and water management in the landscape. The situation with drinking water supplies is critical in many municipalities. We visited examples of good practice – from blue-green infrastructure in Warsaw, through water retention measures in the Czech countryside, examples of simple and effective wastewater treatment solutions in Slovakia, to a meeting with the water coalition in Hungary. Together, we connect experts, local governments, and civic initiatives so that they can share experiences and strengthen cooperation.

In Kyiv, we organized strategic planning for human rights defenders helping people in occupied territories. This will enable them to work together more effectively, be more systematic, and focus on areas where they can achieve change together. Our biggest challenge this time was power outages caused by Russian attacks on Ukraine's critical infrastructure. However, this did not deter us, and we continued by the light of improvised lamps.

What is the Russian regime doing in occupied Crimea? We welcomed Ukrainian human rights defender Daryna Pidhorna from the Regional Center for Human Rights to Prague. Together, we met with a number of candidates in the parliamentary elections. Daryna informed them about serious human rights violations, kidnappings, and political trials in the occupied territories of Ukraine. The future MPs thus gained a concrete idea of how they can advocate for change. She also held talks with the ministries of foreign affairs and culture, as well as other institutions. Together, they sought ways to stop the systematic theft of Ukrainian cultural heritage by the Russian authorities and army.

Thanks to your support, we were able to contribute to the work of medical clowns in the Kherson region. Professionally trained volunteers visited hospitals every day to bring smiles and courage to bedridden children and bring them joy even in difficult times. In addition, we were able to support a children's center in Kherson near the front line, which was equipped by our partner organization Vidrodžennja Chersonščyny so that the center could become a safe haven for all children throughout the day. Thanks to your donations, it was possible to purchase the necessary furniture, electronics, and aids that help children with, among other things, education and physical therapy.

In the spring, we delivered two older Peugeot vehicles to Ukraine to serve people in difficult conditions near the frontline. Thank you to the private donors who donated their cars to help where the need is greatest.

These are photos from Kherson, where at the end of March we sent material aid in the form of tools and instruments to the volunteers from the villages located on the 0 line, which are constantly shelled from Russian positions behind the Dnieper and especially from drones.
