Bikes for Africa connects support for people, giving bicycles a second life, and access to education. Since 2012, we have been giving donated bicycles a new purpose, creating opportunities and positive change along the way. In The Gambia, we help children from remote communities overcome long distances to school. Together with local partners, schools and the Ministry of Education, we develop technical skills, support school-based bicycle mechanics, and strengthen local ownership and responsibility. Our goal is not simply to donate bicycles, but to build local capacity, self-reliance and long-term sustainability. In the Czech Republic, we connect reuse and the circular economy with social inclusion. People serving prison sentences, those returning from prison, and others facing barriers in the labour market take part in preparing bicycles for their next journey. One bicycle can make a difference more than once – for a person, a community and the environment.
