Fashion for Women with One Breast

One in seven women worldwide develops breast cancer during their life. Half of them need surgical removal of one or both breasts (mastectomy). Many choose not to have breast reconstruction. Founded by breast cancer survivor Barbara Pella, AMA WEAR creates fashion for women with one breast who feel uncomfortable with breast prosthesis, empowering them to feel beautiful in their unique bodies.

With breast cancer and mastectomy you experience fear and frustration. After removal of breast tissue on one side, suddenly you are asymmetrical. Breast reconstruction or wearing a prosthesis inside a special bra isn't the solution for everyone. Some don't feel themselves wearing it, others experience irritation of the scar tissue, the prosthesis can slip or become out of place.

AMA WEAR starts where care in hospitals stops by accompanying patients on their journey to gaining self-confidence and acceptance of their new body. We commission international designers on inclusive fashion for those who don’t wear the prosthesis and still wish to feel beautiful. By offering digital sewing patterns for print out instead of producing clothes, we operate sustainably with a global accessibility.

AMA WEAR’s mission goes beyond clothes. We are growing out to an informative platform for sustainable and inclusive fashion, mental support, awareness about breast cancer related topics, especially life saving self examination. Did you know that 1% of all new breast cancer cases affect men?

Your kind contribution goes to designers, material, education, general growth, and finally to happy people and a better world.
