V dnešní době především přispívá k likvidaci lepry jako lidského onemocnění a stará se o rozvoj paliativní péče, tedy péče o nevyléčitelně nemocné a umírající. S touto misí se Řád v Česku podílí na provozu Nemocnice pod Petřínem, Hospicu Štrasburk v Praze a Hospicu svatého Lazara v Plzni a v Klatovech, jakož i půjčovny zdravotnického vybavení pro domácí péči. “Moji prarodiče, kteří toužili trávit důchod na venkově, místo toho strávili konec svého života v bolestech a utrpení kvůli nedostatku dostupné péče o nevyléčitelně nemocné. Roku 2019, po jejich smrti, jsem do organizace sám vstoupil, abych pomohl co největšímu počtu seniorů a nevyléčitelně nemocných neopakovat osud mých prarodičů a dožít pokud možno v radosti a důstojnosti.”

 

The Order of St. Lazarus is one of the oldest charitable organizations in the world. Over the centuries, it expanded into Europe and became a significant operator of hospitals. Today, it primarily contributes to the eradication of leprosy as a human disease and focuses on the development of palliative care, that is, care for the terminally ill and dying. With this mission, the Order in the Czech Republic participates in the operation of the Hospital under Petřín, the Hospice Štrasburk in Prague, and the Hospice of St. Lazarus in Plzeň and Klatovy, as well as a medical equipment lending service for home care. “My grandparents, who wished to spend their retirement in the countryside, instead spent the end of their lives in pain and suffering due to a lack of accessible care for the terminally ill. In 2019, after their deaths, I joined the organization myself to help as many seniors and terminally ill people as possible avoid the fate of my grandparents and, if possible, live out their final days in joy and dignity.”
