Karolínka was born at 24 weeks of pregnancy weighing only 600 g. Due to her severe immaturity, she suffered a brain hemorrhage and further complications followed. She has severe combined disabilities, cerebral palsy and psychomotor retardation. She is practically blind. Despite all this, she has grown up to be a cheerful 15-year-old girl who loves company and her assistance dog Rio. She can walk with full support in a home environment and can hold herself in a sitting position, yet relies on the help of others for all other activities. Karolínka is very much helped by a special neurorehabilitation programme at the Klimkovice Spa, for which Karolínka’s mother needs about CZK 45,000 every year.
