Hair donation
Fundraising for charity supporting young women with breast cancer - Bellis.
Hi all,
You are probably all familiar with my story. At the age of 32 I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer after finding a lump. Once diagnosed, it all moved fast - surgery to remove the tumor and then intense chemotherapy, followed by a double mastectomy.
Hair was one thing I had control over, with regards to deciding when and how I will lose it. I shaved it off a couple of days before my first chemo. I did not hide it and I actually enjoyed the short hair once it started to grow back. At that time I made a decision to grow it back long enough to donate. I did not style my hair or cut it (apart from 1 time, just to do the ends) to make sure I had the same length all over and only used organic products.
This has been a 27 month long process (you can’t say I am not patient :-)).
When choosing who to donate them to I thought 2 charities could benefit from this action, one in the UK and one in the Czech Republic.
The Princess Trust is happy to receive my 10-inch long hair to make a wig. I do not think I have to introduce you to this charity :-).
The Czech charity I have been associated with is Bellis - a non-profit organisation for young women with breast cancer. They do a great job supporting young women and spreading awareness on the importance of self-examination. Men, you also have breasts!
The appointment is in the calendar for Thursday 11/07. Would you be so kind and donate?
Thank you
Jana
