Back to School on the Same Starting Line - for Refugee Children Too
On the first day of school, it's hard to be the one who's different. And when, on top of a foreign-sounding name and an accent, you also have broken crayons and a backpack full of holes, it's twice as hard. Help children from refugee families begin the school year just like their classmates!
Sofia and Andrii are in second and fifth grade. They came from Kharkiv; their father left them even before the war. Today they live in temporary housing, and from the wages their mother earns at a logistics park, they have 7,500 CZK left once the rent is paid. There's nothing left for new school supplies.
For children from refugee families who arrived in the Czech Republic with a single suitcase, the start of the school year brings stress, not joy. Missing or worn-out supplies mean a child feels different from everyone else on the very first day.
But when we give them a little confidence, they can handle the rest much more easily.
200 CZK = a set of notebooks and stationery
450 CZK = a full pencil case
1,200 CZK = a fully stocked backpack
Your gift goes directly toward school supplies for the children who need them most.
We buy the school supplies together with our partners, the AKM stationery shop and the Albert Foundation.
