The 1st of January 2022 was the most difficult day of our lives. On that day, we received a call from the doctor that my partner and the mother of our two children had passed away. 

I met Míša at work where we soon became friends.  That friendship quickly blossomed to a romance and by 2015 we moved in together.  Two years later our son Kilián was born, and soon after that we brought his little sister Amálka into the world.  We enjoyed family life with our children and shared our hopes and dreams of all the places we would take them in the future. 

We lived a happy and peaceful life until the end of 2021, when Míša started to have complications with her thyroid. Her health rapidly declined and further complications extended to her kidneys and liver. Though there were many health concerns, the doctors’ prognosis always seemed to be optimistic. On New Year’ Eve, Míša fell ill and went to see her doctor. That was the last time we saw Míša. Never in my wildest dreams could I believe that a visit to the doctor would be our last goodbye. 

Now we are a family of 3: Amálka, 2 and a half years old and Kilián 4 and a half years old, and me. I need to stay strong for them and take on the role of both mother and father. It’s nonstop chaos between diapers, food, water, lego (ouch!), but also full of joy and unconditional love. When Amálka says “Daddy my beloved” or Kilián’s “Hey look what I built!” always brings me the strength and fuel to my fire.
