We are high school students and we don't like how society and politicians treat our planet. We strive for consistent climate protection, keeping warming below 1.5°C and a just transition to a zero-emission economy. Please support us in our work.
The Fridays For Future movement was founded in early 2019 to unite high school and college students in the effort to save the climate and make a just transition to a zero-emissions economy. We are actively bringing this issue into the public space. We put pressure on private and public actors, politicians and society at large. Please support us in our efforts to save our common future.
The movement was inspired by the student climate strikes abroad started by Swedish student Greta Thunberg. We are currently bringing together dozens of students from dozens of cities across the country.
Our work is meaningful. Last year we organised several climate strikes. We managed to organise the biggest demonstration for the environment and climate protection since the Velvet Revolution. In response to our strikes, the government's Coal Commission was formed to negotiate an end to mining. Over the last two years, Czech society has become more aware of the need to tackle the climate crisis. And we were there.
But our work is not over. The impacts of the climate crisis can be seen all around us - extreme weather events, extreme drought in the Czech Republic, extreme forest fires around the world, extreme sea level rise. The climate crisis is making more and more places on the planet uninhabitable wastelands, and is having an impact on society as a whole.
If we are to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement, heed the scientific warnings and keep warming below 1.5 °C, we still have a long way to go. We need swift and courageous political action, socially and environmentally conscious and responsible politicians, companies and individuals.
On the other side is the fossil fuel industry, which is doing its best to keep its dirty little business going. Fossil fuel corporations are profiting from destroying our future. As a result, it has enormous financial resources, which it uses not only for its (often unethical and misinformed) propaganda, but also for lobbying at the highest levels.
We believe that the organized power of money can only be defeated by the organized power of the people. We believe that civic engagement and the development of civil society makes sense.
However, we cannot do without enough money to continue our work. Your donation will help us cover our normal operating costs, we will be able to promote our contributions on social media, we will not lack funds when organizing demonstrations and other events, and we will be able to involve more high school students in our activities.
Thank you for considering a donation.
