Preparatory courses for college for Roma students

As part of the Dža dureder project, we offer assistance with the preparation and tutoring of Roma children at elementary schools and Roma high school students for graduation and for entrance examinations at colleges. The purpose of our work is to help the Roma children to manage the necessary curriculum, prepare them for further study and generally motivate for education. Our aim is to ensure that students complete their high school leaving examination and continue their studies in college.

Personal story

I knew of the Slovo 21 organization before I began collaborating with it, because annually we watch the Czech Television recording of their Khamoro World Roma Festival at home. Later I found out about their preparatory courses for college, which I took advantage of and which greatly aided me with being accepted to college. I began to collaborate with them one year after completing that course, working as a tutor in Písek, where I prepared Romani youth for high school.

I have enjoyed collaborating with Romani youth because I see their potential. After moving to Prague I became a mentor in their mentoring program for Romani pupils of primary schools in Prague.

Thanks to Slovo 21 I was able to spend an 11-month internship at the Embassy of the United States of America, which was an enriching experience that gave me my further direction.

I have been glad to collaborate on these projects because they made it possible for me to try leading a group of people, to get to know my own strengths and weaknesses, and mainly because I was able to work on myself and to gradually grow, which gave me more self-confidence.
