SSL (STUŽ) is a voluntary non-profit non-governmental organization (civic association) that was founded in September 1992 on the initiative of Josef Vavroušek, the first Minister of the Environment of Czechoslovakia. What are our goals The basic goal of the Society is to seek ways to achieve sustainable development of human society, to approach the ideals of humanism and, at the same time, the ideals of harmony between humans and nature, with the aim of preserving life in all its forms and protecting nature as a whole, with an awareness of our responsibility to present and future generations. We focus our activities on researching and creating the conditions for a sustainable way of life at the local, regional, national, and global levels. We see the transition to sustainability as the only alternative to trends that are deepening the ecological crisis, which would devastate the biosphere and society on a local and ultimately global scale. At the same time, we do not hide the fact that society's transition to a sustainable way of life will require fundamental and multifaceted social changes in the coming decades. One of our goals is therefore to study the social aspects and risks of anticipated future changes.
