Vision defects affect up to a quarter of the world's population, yet glasses are not a low-cost commodity and not everyone can afford them. Deteriorating vision then leads to problems with mobility, impairs orientation and communication, and can result in limited job opportunities, opportunities for further development or the inability to use modern technologies or even just the phone. Such people are then caught in a vicious circle in which one of the factors in their worsening social situation is their untreated sight, but they are unable to afford glasses. Místní místním – Locals for locals together with FOKUS optic decided to change this.
Health – a commonplace for the healthy, a wishful thinking for an ill one. A healthy body is the basis for a happy and functional life. We create a world in which everyone sees better and therefore feels better. And because people without homes have very limited opportunities, we decided to support this project, which gives these people a chance to live a fuller life. (Optika FOKUS)
By connecting the non-profit sphere and the expert sphere, which focuses on quality glasses – FOKUS optics – we want to give people living in shelters the opportunity to have their eyesight measured and get quality customized glasses. This is to help them find and keep a job, improve their orientation and communication with the authorities, and thus promote their independence, as well as to enable them to pursue hobbies such as reading or help with the now necessary computer work. Once the amount of CZK 1,000 is raised, a person from the shelter is given a pair of quality glasses that he or she would not otherwise have been able to afford. Together with FOKUS opticians, we will arrange communication with the shelters, accompany the person to the opticians, measure their eyesight and arrange for the glasses to be handed over. For you as a contributor to see what a few hundred crowns can do, we will send you a report on whom and how your contribution has helped. But we can promise you already that thanks to your gift, a person in need will have the opportunity for a better life.

- Místní místním – Locals for locals is a non-governmental, non-profit organization connecting the public in solidarity and direct help to the people who are experiencing homelessness and people in need. Our main project is the Solidarity Network of shop/keeppers opened to people in need. We seek to change the way we look at homelessness, destereotype the situation of people in need and build bridges between people across social classes.
