FeLV posotove cats are usually overlooked when it comes to animal rescues in Czechia, there isn´t much space available for them. We have a designated room for these cat (including an outside catio) because we believe that even these cats have a right to a comfortable life.
What is FeLV?
FeLV is a type of viral laukemia found in cats. Without adequate care these kind of cats usually die young. However, when a positive cas is properly cared for, she can reach quite a high age. A problem with FeLV positive cats is that they can´t live together with healthy cats, since they would spread the illness through cat toilets or their bowls.
Our FeLV+ cats live life as any other cat in the shelter. However, compared to other cats, their veterinary expences reach higher levels. When it comes to supporting their immunity, curing normal illnesses (FeLV+ cats are more susceptible to general illness) or dental operations (FeLV positives tent to have dental problems), we are burdened by high expences. Unfortunately, there is a general stigma surrounding FeLV positives, so it´s harder to find homes for these cats, so they tend to stay in our care longer than healthy ones. But we believe, that these cats deserve a long and comfortable life, in order to provide it to them, we need your help.
