Lets support women - mothers facing difficult times
Yesterday, I celebrated my 40th birthday. A milestone that brings joy to very few women. A strange stage of life when you start adding things to your wish list like fewer grey hairs, taut skin, plenty of estrogen, fewer varicose veins, and so on. The end of youth. The beginning of middle age. The fifth decade.
Yesterday, I celebrated my 40th birthday. I celebrated it in a happy home, surrounded by beautiful things, with content children who have everything they need and so much more. I celebrated it by my husband's side, who is my rock, within the safety and security of a happy family.
There are so many people who aren't this lucky; there is a whole multitude of people who deserve support. For my 40th birthday, I have chosen women—mothers who have found themselves in an extremely challenging situation they didn't choose and aren't to blame for. Women whom luck has passed by (perhaps just for now) and who have been left to face life all alone during an incredibly demanding stage of life (which parenting young children is, even in two-parent families). And I can't help but think about how many women don't even have a moment to pause and worry about counting their wrinkles or celebrating milestone birthdays because they simply cannot afford such a luxury.
The Facts:
Single mothers are the most economically vulnerable group in the Czech Republic. Around 36% of single-parent households live below the income poverty line.
Ninety percent of single-parent families consist of mothers raising children on their own.
A devastating disadvantage in the labor market—mothers are often forced to take worse, less-skilled jobs, which further worsens the economic situation of single mothers.
