For the fourth time, a group of friends “in the prime of life” is setting out on a seven-day race through the Alps. And once again, they want to give a deeper meaning to the hardship that awaits them. They will ride as Domestici — to raise half a million Czech crowns and help promote palliative care in the Czech Republic.
Why Domestici? Because in cycling, a domestique helps another rider reach the finish line. And that is exactly what palliative care is about — accompanying a person through the hardest stage of life with dignity, without unnecessary pain, in safety, and surrounded by the support of loved ones.
Did you know that up to 70,000 people in the Czech Republic need palliative care every year? The good news is that options do exist — from hospices (including mobile hospices), specialized hospital teams, and general practitioners to specialists and residential care facilities. The problem is that a large part of the public still does not understand what palliative care involves or who it is available for. As a result, help often comes too late — or not at all. People who could spend their final days at home, in peace and among family, are instead left unnecessarily alone, in pain, or in fear.
This needs to change.
This year there are seven of us, and we believe we can do it.
Not only complete this year’s Tour TransAlp — a race across the Austrian and Italian Alps, where over seven days we will face 750 kilometers, 17 mountain passes, and 17,000 meters of elevation gain.
But above all, to earn your support for DOMESTICI — a project of enthusiasts and experts led by Martin Souček. DOMESTICI support hospice organizations and help bring the topic of palliative care closer to the general public. DOMESTICI open up the sensitive subject of life’s final moments with courage, humanity, and respect. That is why all your donations (and all our effort) will go to support the DOMESTICI project.
So that together we can help those who are approaching the finish line of life. After all, they did not choose their final stage.

In cycling, domestiques are team members whose role is to support their leader and help them reach the finish line in the best possible shape.
Domestici.cz is a project that connects active people with the topic of palliative care — so that they can support their loved ones while they still have the strength, and contribute to the development of palliative care, which sooner or later, most of us will need.
Life should be lived with quality and dignity until the very last second. That is why palliative care exists.
Our dream is to build a strong and meaningful awareness project dedicated to this important topic. And for the good work to continue, we need your support. Thanks to you, thousands more people will be able to learn about the benefits of palliative care. They will be better prepared for the moment when someone close to them may need it at the end of life.
This is what we have already achieved – thanks to you:
You fulfilled the dream of terminally ill physician Petra Vrbová to raise CZK 1 million for the hospices in Semily and Vrchlabí – through the “Petra Calls 155” fundraising campaign.
More than 20 podcast episodes have been released, exploring end-of-life topics from every possible perspective.
As ambassadors, you have organized more than 50 fundraising challenges in support of hospices and other palliative care services.
We were able to produce the feature-length film 8Days, 8Hours about the challenging journey across the ocean to compete in the Race Across America – a story about the power of pushing boundaries and bringing hope to others.

Your support helps us cover the essential costs of running and growing our non-profit activities, including:
Organizing public talks, panel discussions, and meetings with both experts and the general public
Hosting the 2nd annual charity ride “8 Days for Palliative Care” in 2026
Reaching out to more and more donors who care deeply about palliative care and are not indifferent to this important cause
Recording additional episodes of the podcast Nejedu sám (“I’m Not Riding Alone”)
