I run to give people with Alzheimer desease an opportunity to see and enjoy art works of the great masters right in a gallery. I studied Art History but in the same time I was always interested in medical science. So, when The National Institute of Mental Health (NÚDZ) was established in my town I decided to become a volunteer and launch an Art & Alzheimer program for clients of a local day care centre. Program that already works very well abroad.
Fine art is mighty. It recalls our own memories, offers various impulses for communication and ways of interpretation which is especially for people with Alzheimer disease very important benefit. I decided to run my next race Mattoni Karlovy Vary Half Marathon as a runner for a Good Cause to improve this project by regular visits to the National Gallery in Prague.
Program is very popular. At present, we discuss about paintings being projected on a big TV screen but there is no subtitute for visiting an art gallery and seeing art works with own eyes. It would be very interesting experience and break from daily routine. It would vastly improve this program. I also want to make my run more meaningful so that’s way I contacted the Alzheimer Foundation (Alzheimer nadační fond) and the next race Mattoni Karlovy Vary Half Marathon on May 20 will join as a runner for a Good Cause.
Within an Art & Alzheimer project I work as a volunteer, I also gained a support from The National Gallery in Prague nevertheless a comfortable and safe transportation of 10 clients and their carers from a day care centre to a gallery costs money. A minibus is approximatelly 3.600 CZK (144 $, 133 Є) per one trip. My goal is to raise 36.000 CZK (1.440 $, 1330 Є) which would cover the transport to the galleries for one year. Any contribution will be appreciated.

Alzheimer nadační fond
This therapeutic program is designed for clients of a day care centre, where it also takes place at present. Thanks to support it could continue on a regular basis right in a gallery. Program consists in open discussion on fine art. Various ways of art interpretation free clients of fear of failing, each opinion is relevant and valuable. Art offers broad space for communication, expressing personal impressions, for sharing memories and gained knowledge and experiences which brings significant benefits for clients with Alzheimer disease.
