On December 18, 2024, the proposal submitted by the SPD and Trikolora representatives was approved by the council of the Prague 8 District. The proposal to amend the rules of financial support accuses the SVĚTOVA1 association of terrorism, anti-Semitism, xenophobia, and racism. We are being condemned for alleged and ideological reasons that are not supported by any concrete evidence. Interpreting the display of a flag as support for terrorism is not only dangerous but also misleading. Such accusations are extremely serious and in our opinion, it constitutes an infringement on our constitutional rights, exceeds the bounds of democratic discourse and freedom of expression, and simultaneously threatens the fundamental principles of supporting culture and civil society. These accusation must be approached with the utmost caution and responsibility.

SVĚTOVA 1 is a long-standing and respected cultural and community space dedicated to supporting art, dialogue, and education. We firmly reject any form of hatred or discrimination based on nationality, ethnicity, religion, or any other identity. The accusation that this association supports terrorism is unfounded and harmful. Cultural institutions and associations have the right to provide a platform for diverse voices within society, which is the essence of democratic public life.
If we begin to censor and punish organizations for their opinions or activities in this way, we tread on very dangerous ground.

We would like to ask for your help. As an independent and non-profit project, it is already very challenging to cover our financial costs, and with the adoption of this proposal, we will lose a significant portion of our total budget for the upcoming year.

Nevertheless, we are not giving up and firmly believe that our fight against the restriction of freedom of expression is not in vain.
