My name is Filip, and on July 9 I will set off on a bicycle journey from Prague to Denmark to support the work of Haima CZ, a non-profit organization that helps children with cancer and their families through some of the hardest moments of their lives. Haima supports children during treatment, recovery, and their gradual return to everyday life.

A year ago, my life changed overnight. After one blood test in the morning, I was admitted that same evening to the Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (ÚHKT) in Prague, where adults with leukemia and other blood cancers are treated. That was the beginning of my battle with leukemia, a battle that, after six months, I was fortunate to win.

I am deeply grateful for my treatment, the incredible healthcare professionals, and everyone who supported me throughout the journey. During my 30 days in the hospital, I often found myself thinking about how cancer affects people regardless of age, especially the most vulnerable, children and their families.

One day, after looking at the painting hanging in front of my bed in Room 7, I discovered on a map that it depicted the Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse in Denmark. I promised myself that once everything was over, I would visit that place.

Exactly one year after my hospitalization, on July 9, 2026, I will begin my journey to that lighthouse. For me, it symbolizes hope and the light at the end of a difficult road. I hope that every child supported by Haima and every cancer patient will one day reach their own lighthouse.
