The earthquake was the strongest to hit Colombia in nearly fifty years and was also felt in neighbouring countries. Its epicentre was located in the department of Chocó, near the border with Panama.
Staff and volunteers from ADRA Colombia are currently assessing the damage in the affected areas, as some information remains unclear. So far, we know that the earthquake destroyed or damaged more than 10,000 buildings, including schools, healthcare facilities and community centres, leaving them unable to operate. In some areas, electricity supplies have been disrupted, and dozens of roads and water supply systems have also been destroyed.
