Otokar Březina Museum – preserve the legacy of the great Czech poet

The Otokar Březina Society lovingly runs the Museum and Study Library with a unique collection in Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou. We organize regular meetings, Museum Night, concerts, exhibitions and competitions for schools. The exhibition contains documents, paintings, photographs and personal items of Březina, but part of the collections is not securely stored. The museum is run by volunteers, financial support is essential. Help us modernize the exhibition, finance guides and organize events for the public.

Despite limited financial resources, the Otokar Březina Society runs the Otokar Březina Museum and Study Library in Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou with love and care, and with a unique collection of books. Twice a year, we organize meetings with a rich programme and other events, such as: Museum Night, Open Garden Weekend, music therapy, concerts, exhibitions, screenings and knowledge quizzes for elementary school students.

Our exhibition preserves unique documents, photographs, paintings, sculptures and personal items of Otokar Březina. Unfortunately, a part of the collection is stored in conditions that do not meet the needs of preserving cultural heritage, and there is a risk of their gradual devaluation. At the same time, the Museum is maintained in the long term, thanks to the work of volunteers. This is not sustainable without financial support.

We especially need:

  • Funding for the development and modernization of the Museum's exhibition
  • Funding the guides who introduce visitors to the life and work of Otokar Březina
  • Funding for organizing events for the public
  • Funding for publishing the proceedings of international professional conferences...
We are working on our integration into the general museum system in order to apply for state support, but until then, any help from supporters of literature and culture is crucial.

Support the Otokar Březina Museum with a regular contribution and help us preserve the memory of the great Czech poet and support cultural life for future generations.

The Otokar Březina Museum in Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou is a unique literary monument and cultural centre that preserves the legacy of one of the most important Czech poets. In the house where Otokar Březina lived from 1913 until his death in 1929, you can take a journey through time and see his world: the poet's well-preserved apartment with original furniture, paintings, graphics and smaller sculptures, as well as collections of rare documents and monuments. On the ground floor you will find a study library that serves editors, students and all interested parties, and exhibitions presenting the history of the museum and the Otokar Březina Society.

The museum has a long and varied history:

  • The Otokar Březina Society was founded shortly after the poet's death in 1932, discontinued after 1949 and restored in 1990.
  • The house underwent a general renovation and transformation into a museum which was ceremonially opened on the 125th anniversary of the poet's birth in 1993.
  • Since 2005, the museum has been officially protected as a cultural monument.
Over the more than one hundred years of its existence, the museum has welcomed countless important figures of cultural and public life, including presidents Edvard Beneš and Václav Havel, conductor Václav Talich, opera singer Peter Dvorský, actor Radovan Lukavský, abbots Opasek and Vítek Tajovský, and minister Pavel Dostál. Visitors have also come from abroad – the US, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Israel, England, and other countries.

The Otokar Březina Museum retains its significance thanks to the tireless care of the Otokar Březina Society and the support of all who want to preserve the cultural and spiritual legacy of the great Czech poet.

Your support will help to:

  • preserve and restore historical spaces and collections,
  • organize cultural events, discussions, and exhibitions,
  • make the museum accessible to students, researchers, and the general public.
Become a part of this tradition and help preserve the legacy of Otokar Březina for future generations.

Thank you for your help!
