The Light and Warmth for Kyiv fundraising campaign responds to the critical winter situation in Ukraine, where ongoing attacks on energy infrastructure are leaving thousands of children and families without electricity, heating, and basic living conditions. The aim of the campaign is to ensure the continued operation of Save Ukraine centers in Kyiv and the surrounding area—places that, during power outages, provide safety, warmth, food, a chance to warm up, charge devices, and access essential assistance. Support from the campaign helps protect the most vulnerable from cold, illness, and further trauma, and ensures that these centers remain open even during the harshest winter.
The Light and Warmth for Kyiv fundraising campaign was created as an urgent response to the dramatic deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Kyiv and its surrounding areas during the winter of 2025–2026. Ongoing and intensifying attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure are causing long-term outages of electricity, heating, and water at a time when temperatures fall well below freezing. Under these conditions, basic survival is not guaranteed for many children and families.
The aim of the campaign is to ensure the uninterrupted operation of Save Ukraine centers in Kyiv, Irpin, and Hatne. These centers provide daily assistance to children rescued from occupied territories, families evacuated from frontline areas, survivors of violence, and other vulnerable community members who are most at risk due to winter conditions, energy outages, and the ongoing conflict.
Today, the centers function not only as places of psychological and social support, but also as community resilience hubs—safe spaces where people seek warmth, light, food, and the ability to stay connected to the outside world during power outages.
What the campaign will enable
Funds raised will be used exclusively for critical and urgent needs with an immediate impact on the health, safety, and dignity of children and families.
The campaign will help procure and operate:
generators and charging stations (e.g. EcoFlow) to provide lighting in the centers,
power for medical and communication equipment.
Who the campaign helps protect
Support from the campaign is primarily directed toward:
children rescued from occupied territories and from Russian deportation,
families evacuated from areas of active fighting,
survivors of sexual violence and exploitation,
vulnerable members of local communities who are repeatedly exposed to power outages and extreme winter conditions.
Hundreds of children and adults, as well as professional staff working with them, depend daily on the operation of these centers. In the event of a complete power outage, without immediate support there would be a risk of closure of these spaces and interruption of essential services.
How the funds will be used
The funds raised will help secure in particular:
Alternative energy sources: generators, charging stations, and power banks will make it possible to maintain lighting, heating, communication, and basic safety in the centers even during prolonged blackouts
Warmth and heating: fuel, heaters, extension cords, and other technical equipment will ensure that a safe temperature can be maintained in the centers for children and adults and help prevent cold-related illnesses.
Basic survival during outages: gas stoves, field kitchens, and long-shelf-life food supplies will enable the preparation of hot meals even when electricity and gas are unavailable.
Emergency shelter and rest: folding beds, sleeping bags, thermal blankets, and bedding will provide people with the possibility to rest safely and warmly during long outages or after air raids.
Safety and orientation in the dark: flashlights, batteries, and lighting will help ensure basic safety of movement within the centers and their surroundings.
Concrete examples of the impact of support
Thanks to a generator, a center can remain open even during multi-day power outages and provide children with a safe space instead of forcing them to return to cold, dark apartments.
Charging stations allow families to stay in contact with loved ones, call for help, and access up-to-date information during crisis situations.
Hot meals prepared in a field kitchen help children and adults cope with stress, cold, and exhaustion.
Warming blankets and heated spaces reduce the risk of respiratory illnesses and protect children from further physical and psychological harm.
Why help is crucial right now
This campaign is not about improving comfort, but about ensuring basic living conditions during a period of extreme danger. Every day of delay means higher health risks and a greater burden on children who have already lost their sense of safety due to war. Rapid support from the campaign has an immediate and direct impact—it helps maintain light, warmth, and hope where they are most needed right now.
Thank you for your support and goodwill!
