Breathing is something most of us take for granted. But for children with neuromuscular diseases, it is a daily challenge. The inability to cough effectively can lead to mucus build-up, frequent infections, and dangerous complications. A cough assist device helps them breathe more easily and cope with the world around them with less effort.
This device allows children to better manage infections, recover faster, and breathe with less effort. It improves their quality of life and treatment outcomes while bringing peace of mind to both children and their parents.
“We have some children who have either acute or chronic lung problems that result in their airways and lungs being polluted. It may be caused by an acute or chronic inflammation. A cough assist machine is able to help clean those airways, shorten the treatment time, and make it more successful,” says Ivan Peychl, Head of the Pediatric Department at FN Bulovka.

What are we raising funds for, and why?
A cough assist device helps children with weakened breathing function clear their airways. For young patients with lung or neuromuscular diseases, it often means the difference between breathing and breathlessness — between illness and relief.
How does a cough assist device work?
A cough assist device uses controlled positive and negative pressure to mimic a natural cough. It first gently helps inflate the lungs and then uses a quick flow of air to safely push mucus out of the airways. This method is gentle, painless, and suitable even for the smallest patients.
