Our landscape is the greatest asset we have. Unfortunately, the risk that our world may not sustain us in the future and that living in it may become increasingly unenjoyable grows with each passing year. This is a danger we are determined to prevent.
At People in Need, we have a positive vision of how to heal our landscape step by step. We know how to do it and believe that change is possible. We have something to build on ourselves. For more than 30 years, we have been helping people worldwide face natural disasters. We have built thousands of wells, planted over 10 million trees, and restored 10,000 hectares of degraded landscapes in Ethiopia. In Zambia, Angola, and many other countries, we teach farmers how to care for the soil so that it continues to produce in dry years. In the Czech Republic, we restored 500 destroyed gardens, planted tree alleys, and established a new park after the tornado in Moravia.
What do we want to help with?
- Retaining water in the landscape: revitalising waterways, re-modelling streams and rivers, technical solutions for rainwater harvesting, and recycling of water for domestic use.
- Promoting nature-friendly farming: introducing agricultural practices and methods to transition from conventional to regenerative farming practices that restore the soil and its natural fertility.
- Encouraging biological diversity: the creation of wetlands, soakage ditches and water retention ponds, and the introduction of landscape features such as tree alleys, windbreaks, and more.
