Sun for Ukraine – Join us in bringing light to Ukrainian hospitals

For the third year, Ukraine has been under relentless bombardment and attacks by the Russian army, causing power outages across the country. In hospitals, lights go out in operating rooms, and life-saving equipment in intensive care units stops working. Let’s bring back light and electricity where they are needed most. Support the purchase of solar power systems for Ukrainian hospitals.

Currently, approximately 80% of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure has been damaged. Cities are grappling with power outages, with some receiving electricity for only two hours a day. Hospitals, which rely on a continuous power supply to operate, are among the most vulnerable.

That’s why we are raising funds to install solar power systems. The average cost of one system is around €25,000. Over the past two years, Czech donors have supported the installation of solar power systems on hospitals and other public buildings in Sumy, Zhytomyr, Lviv, Kolomyia, Zaporizhzhia, and seven other cities.  People and companies have collectively donated over 3,700,000 CZK to support Ukraine.

Solar panels provide not only immediate support for the critical work of healthcare professionals but also long-term assistance in rebuilding war-torn Ukraine. They will supply operating rooms with light and renewable energy for at least the next 20 years.

Currently, hundreds of Ukrainian communities are waiting for solar power systems.

Energy outages caused by Russian aggression pose the greatest danger to the most vulnerable—those who are injured, ill, or reliant on medical care. Doctors and healthcare workers need stable energy sources to continue their lifesaving work. However, they cannot rely on grid electricity due to bombings and drone attacks, and backup generators depend on diesel fuel.

With minimal operating costs and independence from fossil fuels, solar energy is the best available solution. It enables Ukrainian healthcare workers to save lives even during further attacks and outages.

In the last month and a half, thanks to the solidarity of many people, over 180,000 CZK have been raised for the transport of solar panels to the Ukrainian villages of Ponornitsa, Chernihiv, Vynkivtsi, Vyzhnicia and Zalishiky.
This will allow the municipalities to build solar power plants on the buildings of hospitals, waterworks and schools. In total, more than 2,800 solar panels with a capacity of 545 kW were delivered to the municipalities.
The panels are already in place. The remaining money will be used to build more power plants and develop the Sun for Ukraine project.
A big thank you to all those who are thinking of the country, which has been fighting tirelessly against Russian aggression for three years now, and financially supporting its sustainable reconstruction efforts.
