TALARAK - Typhoon Odette

Dear Partners and Friends of Talarak, In the early hours of Friday morning Typhoon Odette (Rai) swept across the center of Negros, with 250km/h winds and extreme rainfall causing unprecedented destruction. In the days around the Typhoon the Talarak Foundation structures and active sites, as with much of the island, suffered greatly from floodwaters, high winds, falling trees and debris.

For thirty years, since the late 1980’s, Negros Forest and Ecological Foundation, Inc. (NFEFI), has reforested no less than 1,000 hectares. Their community projects, education programs, and forest protection programs, have successfully transformed communities and lives. The founding of the Biodiversity Conservation Centre (BCC) at the heart of Bacolod City, through the guidance of William Oliver, was the foundation’s showcase project.
