Sri Lanka has suffered the worst floods since 2003. Floods and landslides affected about half a million people mainly in the north and west of Sri Lanka. 73,000 of them had to leave their homes. Diakonia declares a collection to help with the restoration of the country.
We approached the partners directly on the site. In their view, immediate relief from floods, such as food and water supplies, was going well. However, resources are missing to restore devastated schools, homes, and roads. "It is now necessary to help the flood victims return to their normal lives as soon as possible," wrote Dr. Deshapriya, Coordinator of the Global Initiative Against Poverty. That is why we have decided to support Sri Lanka by announcing the collection.
