Support groups as a first port of call
These are not easy times — not for trans and non-binary people, not for their parents, and not for their partners.
Whether it’s someone just beginning to question their identity, a parent whose child has recently come out, or a couple trying to understand what transition might mean for their relationship, the experience can feel overwhelming. Clear, trustworthy information is often hard to find. Professional support isn’t always immediately available. And the emotional impact can be profound.
At moments like these, what matters most can be something very simple, like sitting in a room with people who truly listen and understand. Being able to say things out loud. Sharing fears and doubts without having to justify yourself. Hearing someone else describe something you thought only you were feeling.
For almost eleven years, our support groups have offered exactly that to hundreds of people.
A Safe, Facilitated Space to Be Heard
Our support groups are often a first port of call — a form of early, community-based support. They are structured, confidential meetings led by trained facilitators, where people who share similar experiences come together regularly in a respectful and carefully held space.
Participants are free to speak openly, without fear of judgement or debate. There is no need to educate others about the basics of trans experience. No need to pretend everything is fine.
Because each group is guided by experienced facilitators, conversations remain constructive, safe and supportive. People leave not only with a sense of relief, but with practical insights, new perspectives and — perhaps most importantly — a feeling of not being alone.
- For trans and non-binary people, the groups offer a rare space where their identity is simply accepted.
- For parents, they provide room to talk honestly about worry, confusion, hope and love, without feeling they must protect their child from their own emotions.
- For partners, they acknowledge that transition affects relationships too, and that their feelings and questions deserve space as well.
Eleven years free of charge — Now we’re asking for your help
We have run these groups year-round, free of charge, for nearly eleven years. We have always absorbed the costs ourselves because we believe access to support should never depend on income, geography or background.
This year, for the first time, we cannot continue without additional help.
Our rent is rising, and we are searching for sustainable long-term premises. Rental costs in Prague are significant. Professional facilitation, coordination, administration and communications all require time and expertise. Even our online groups depend on careful organisation and dedicated people behind the scenes.
So, for the first time, we are asking for your support.
Even a small donation, makes huge difference
Just 300 CZK (10 GBP, 12 EUR) covers one person’s place at a support group meeting — one evening where someone does not have to carry everything on their own.
Your contribution helps us keep the groups free and open to anyone who needs them, regardless of age, income or personal circumstances.
And through our partnership with the Pride Business Forum Foundation, your gift goes further: for every 200 CZK donated, Pride Business Forum contributes an additional 100 CZK up to a total of 30, 000 CZK
Help Us Keep the Door Open
Support groups do not exist by accident. They are built on trust, care and years of steady commitment. They exist because people need them.
With your help, we can ensure that trans people, their parents and their partners continue to have somewhere to turn — a place to pause, to speak honestly, and to remember they are not alone.
Thank you for standing with us.
:)
