800 kilometers, 17 hospices, 8 days and 8 hours. And one powerful story about the courage to live fully in the face of serious illness. 🌸

🚴‍♀️ Zorka Šťastná, a 46-year-old woman receiving palliative care, is preparing to take on the ride of her life starting June 7, 2025. In a relay with her daughters and supported by the Domestici team, she will cycle across the Czech Republic — from west to east, from Cheb to Třinec — in just eight days. Along the way, they will stop at 17 hospices. 🚴‍♂️

Join us! Watch life tracking, come to a local event

Track the ride online at www.8dni.cz – you’ll find daily updates from the road, stories from hospices along the route, and the current status of the fundraising campaign.

Want to get involved in a fun way? As part of your donation, you can generate your own personalized cycling jersey or a sign with a message for our small peloton. We’ll create images for you to share on social media – a great way to spread the word that June is for supporting palliative care!

Along the route, several local community events will take place – with music, activities, and a chance to support the idea of dignified care until the end of life. A major public event with a concert by Marie Tilšarová will take place in Beroun, and another big gathering in Prague will feature a performance by singer Tali, presentations from three local palliative care providers, and a rich accompanying program.

📍Key Events Along the “8 Days for Palliative Care” Route

On Thursday, June 6, we invite the public to an opening talk at Papírna (Unipap plus) in Cheb, and the closing event on June 15 will take place in the Třinec public library.
Details about each community event can be found at www.8dni.cz.

Domestici.cz connects sport, solidarity, and support for palliative care in the Czech Republic. We bring together active people who care about how our loved ones live — and how they leave this world. Together, we help ensure that the end of life can be calm, dignified, and spent close to those who matter most.

Why is palliative care important?

Palliative care helps people with incurable illnesses live quality lives until the very end — without unnecessary pain, in safety, and with support provided not only to them, but also to their loved ones.
  • In the Czech Republic, approximately 70,000 people need palliative care today.
  • Yet 40% of people don’t even know what palliative care means.
We believe that no one should be left alone, in pain, or in fear at the end of life.

What do we do as Domestici.cz?

We are building a community of people who speak openly and respectfully about palliative care — and who actively support it.
  • We organize awareness-raising events.
  • We connect people through challenges and personal stories.
  • We provide financial support to hospices and organizations that develop palliative care across the Czech Republic.
The project was born out of the founder Martin Souček’s passion for ultra-cycling. In 2024, he linked his participation in the Race Across America with support for palliative care. And around this idea, a community of “Domestiques” gradually grew — a community of people who help others.

How exactly will your donations help?

All funds raised will be distributed among outstanding organizations that are advancing palliative care in the Czech Republic, specifically:
  • The Forum of Mobile Hospices, helping make palliative care more accessible
  • The Center for Palliative Care, which provides education and awareness for healthcare professionals across the system as well as for the public
  • Selected hospices across the Czech Republic
10% of the collected amount will be used for the long-term support of the Domestici project. This will enable us to carry out this fundraiser and many other awareness-raising activities. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Become a Domestique!

Anyone can get involved — in a way that suits their possibilities:
  • Donate any amount.
  • Create your own fundraising challenge at the bottom of this page and involve people around you! Connect Domestici.cz with your sporting challenge, event, or personal story.
You don’t have to be an athlete. All you need is the desire to be there for others.

Thank you for helping change the way we accompany people at the end of life in the Czech Republic.
