We would not only like to provide the children with this fantastic trip to explore the universe and discover the Milky Way, but also introduce them to other areas of life on Earth in a fun and especially visual way. It may come as no surprise to you that nothing is known about the Milky Way in Mahango, but that nothing is known about the milk cow is a bit of a shock. What interactive learning has already brought to children
Interactive learning started years ago at the Centre for Orphans, we created a classroom for the "School of Play", got a library for it and volunteer Katka painted it so that the children would feel comfortable in it. Volunteer Matouš got a data projector with other gadgets so we can introduce the children to life beyond Mahango and topics from around the world. The children finally saw African animals and Tanzanian national parks that they had never seen in person. They learned about music and the African roots of world music. At the height of the pandemic threat, they learned about prevention and hygiene through educational videos. In our free time, we laughed together at various cartoons, which also taught them new things, like the fact that the largest land animal in the Northern Hemisphere is a bear.
What we are preparing now
To fill the classroom library with picture books, which are much better than dry explanations
Get their own worksheets to make every lesson more fun, not just the volunteer ones full of interesting facts, but also classical maths, Swahili etc - we need a printer
Support an interesting lesson - this time it is a "field trip to space" prepared by volunteer Zdeňka - we need small classical telescopes, foot pointers, maps and southern sky rotating wheels
Excursion - nothing is more visual than seeing and touching something with your own eyes. Last time the children were at the airport and the fauna park, this time they would go to see how drinks are made (a dairy farm, a tea plantation or even a Coca Cola factory)
