The Central Library of Mosul University, with over one million documents (including rare manuscripts and old prints), was one of the most important libraries in the area. In 2014 to 2016, when Mosul came under the so-called Islamic state, it was almost completely destroyed. In July 2017, the city was finally liberated and efforts were made to revive it. This effort also focuses on the University of Musulus and its library, providing students and educators with the excellent background needed to study and teach.
